Driving For Good

Driving For Good is Oh My Transport’s community giving program. We know that transportation can be the difference between “we can do this” and “we just can’t make it happen.” Through this program, we donate or discount transportation services for local nonprofits, community groups, schools, churches, and verified community needs in our service area. It’s our way of using our buses for something bigger than brewery tours and private charters—because a bus full of people going somewhere that matters is exactly why we do this.

What the Program Does

  • Provides no-cost or reduced-cost transportation for approved community events
  • Helps organizations get people to and from programs, services, and special events
  • Supports local causes, especially those serving families, youth, seniors, and veterans
  • Mobilizes our fleet when there’s a community need and we have capacity

Examples of Eligible Trips

  • Taking a youth group to an educational outing
  • Transporting seniors to a holiday program
  • Moving volunteers to and from an event site
  • Providing transportation for a community outreach event
  • Helping a local nonprofit remove transportation as a barrier to attendance
  • Transporting essential personnel during a disaster or emergency

Who It’s For

Driving For Good is intended for:

  • 501(c)(3) and local nonprofit organizations
  • Schools and school-affiliated groups
  • Faith-based and community groups hosting public-benefit events
  • Government or locality partners working on community access
  • Special circumstances where a genuine community need exists

If you’re not sure your request fits, send it in anyway—tell us what you’re trying to do and why transportation matters. We look first at community impact.

How It Works

  1. You submit a request using our contact form (or by contacting our office).
  2. Our team reviews your request for eligibility, available dates, and vehicle/driver availability.
  3. If approved, we’ll confirm the trip, timing, pickup/drop-off locations, and any special requirements.
  4. You’ll receive a confirmation outlining what’s covered (donated) and what, if anything, will be your responsibility.

What We Consider

Because we’re an active transportation company with scheduled work, we can’t accept every request. When reviewing, we look at:

  • Date/time and whether we have a bus and driver available
  • Distance and total hours needed
  • Safety requirements (number of riders, ages, accessibility needs)
  • Community impact and alignment with the program
  • Whether the organization can cover any portion of the cost, even if small

Cost & Funding

Our intention is to say “yes” as often as we can. That said, transportation has real costs—fuel, insurance, drivers, wear on the vehicle. For that reason:

  • Some trips will be 100% donated
  • Some trips will be partially donated (you pay a reduced rate)
  • Some trips may be referred to sponsors if available
  • Some trips may not be possible on high-demand days

Want to Sponsor a Trip?

Local businesses and partners can help amplify this program. If you’d like to sponsor a Driving For Good trip—either for a specific group or to create a fund we can draw from—let us know. We can:

  • Match your business with a local cause
  • Acknowledge your support on our site or social (if desired)
  • Provide trip details so you know exactly what your support did

Accessibility & Safety

This is still OMT. That means:

  • All our standard safety policies apply
  • All riders must follow driver instructions
  • We need accurate headcounts ahead of time
  • We may require waivers for certain trips
  • We will not overload or run unsafe routes just because a trip is donated

Service Area

Driving For Good is focused on the areas we normally serve (Williamsburg, New Kent, and surrounding localities). Requests outside that area may require partial payment or may not be possible.

What We Can’t Do

To keep this program sustainable, we typically do not donate:

  • Private parties that are not a community benefit
  • For-profit events
  • Transportation that conflicts with existing paid bookings
  • Last-minute requests with no flexibility

How to Request a Driving For Good Trip

Include the following in your request:

  • Organization name and contact person
  • Date(s) and time window
  • Pickup and drop-off locations
  • Number of passengers
  • Purpose of the trip (what the event is and who it serves)
  • Whether you can contribute any amount toward the trip

We’ll review it and get back to you with options.
