What is a fuel surcharge?

OMT uses a fuel surcharge to keep our base fares predictable while fuel prices fluctuate. We track the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s weekly average prices for our region (PADD 1C – Lower Atlantic) for both gasoline and diesel. When those averages rise materially above our internal baseline, we add a small, transparent surcharge to recover a portion of the increased fuel expense. It appears as a separate line item on quotes and/or invoices, applies to the appropriate vehicle type (gasoline for our gas bus, diesel for our diesel bus), and is removed automatically when prices fall back to or below baseline. This approach lets us maintain fair, stable pricing while covering real-world operating costs during periods of volatility.

How is the fuel surcharge assessed on trips booked in advance?

For trips booked in advance, the fuel surcharge is indexed to the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s weekly average for our region (PADD 1C – Lower Atlantic). We may show an estimated surcharge at booking based on the current index. Fourteen (14) days before your trip, we finalize the surcharge using the latest weekly index and it will not change after that. If the finalized amount differs from the estimate by less than the greater of $25 or 3% of your base fare, we keep your original estimate. When market prices return to our baseline, the surcharge is removed.

Why do I need to contact you for an accurate price?

Accepted Answer

A lot of different factors go into your trip, such as which vehicle you would like to book, the pickup and drop off locations, one-way vs round trip, etc. You are not obligated to pay for the trip or put a deposit or retainer down at this time. If you want to reserve the booking after receiving a quote, just let us know and you can pay the deposit.

Is there an hourly minimum?

We require a minimum booking of 3 hours.

Do I pay for any downtime?

Accepted Answer

No. We only charge for deadhead time, which is the time it takes for the bus to travel to your pickup location and return to our bus yard, plus the time the bus is actively providing transportation. For example, if you book three hours and only need the bus for 1.5 hours to take guests to the venue and 1.5 hours to bring them back, you are only paying for that transportation time. The tradeoff is that the bus will not remain available to you during the gap in service.
